Falasha Campbell

In the vibrant and bustling borough of the Bronx, New York, there lived a determined and resilient young girl named Falasha. Falasha was a black girl who grew up in a single-parent household with her mother, who had migrated from the beautiful island of Jamaica with her three brothers. Life in the Bronx was tough, but Falasha’s mother always emphasized the importance of education. She knew that education would be the key to breaking out of their challenging environment and creating a better life for themselves. With her mother's unwavering support and encouragement, Maya set her sights on achieving academic success. After years of hard work and perseverance, Falasha graduated from college in the Bronx, becoming the first in her family to earn a degree. Fueled by her own experiences and the desire to give back to the community that had raised her, Falasha decided to become a teacher. For the next ten years, Falasha served as an inspiring and dedicated educator in the New York City public school system. She poured her heart and soul into shaping the young minds of her students, empowering them with knowledge and instilling in them the belief that they too could overcome any obstacles. As Falasha continued her teaching journey, she began to dream of creating her own school. She envisioned a place where children from all walks of life could receive a high-quality education in a nurturing and supportive environment. With unwavering determination, Falasha set out to turn her dream into a reality. With the support of her loving husband and the sheer force of her will, Falasha opened her first childcare center. Despite facing numerous challenges and having no financial backing from any institution, Falasha’s passion and dedication shone through. She poured her heart and soul into every aspect of the center, ensuring that it provided the best possible care and education for the children in her community. Word quickly spread about Falasha’s childcare center and the incredible impact it was having on the lives of the families it served. Within just one year, Falasha was able to scale her operation and open two more locations, reaching even more single moms and underserved families in the Bronx. Falasha’s childcare centers became beacons of hope and opportunity in the community. They provided a safe haven for children, a place where they could learn, grow, and thrive. Falasha’s commitment to excellence and her unwavering belief in the power of education transformed the lives of countless children and families. Lisa Koehler

Lisa Koehler is the founder of the Drab to Fab Life. Originally from a small town in Central Illinois, she didn’t have a lot of goals or passions. However she was blessed with a spirit of perseverance! She had her daughter, Tiarra, when she was 20. As a young single mom, they lived in public housing and were on public assistance. However she refused to stay there for long. When her daughter was just six weeks old she I was back in the workforce doing telephone marketing for car surveys. She moved along quickly from job to job, even delivering newspapers before her full-time job to make ends meet, until she landed a position as an Administrative Assistant at one of the local corn refinery plants. With a passion for learning and growing, she took an online course to get her paralegal certification on dial up internet. Later she pursued her Bachelors Degree taking classes in the evening after her full-time job. One of her most treasured memories to look back on is seeing her Grandma waiting for her after walking off the stage at graduation. She was so proud of her and that’s a moment in time that she holds dearly and reminds herself of when she feels discouraged. Lisa had believed that a Bachelor's Degree would allow her to move up the ladder at the Corporate Office. She had interviewed for a sales position within the Company and was told she smiled too much. She was discouraged but continued to keep showing up with that same smile and positive attitude. Lisa had always struggled with her weight. After losing 60 lbs working out at home, she decided to join the local YMCA. One day after class she noticed a flyer to get a group fitness certification for the gym version of an at home program she was familiar with, TurboKick. She signed up, not having any kind of experience in that area. The workout is fast and choreographed to the music. So if the instructor is off, they miss the sound effects and everything else. She took the certification and a few days later she was on the schedule to teach. The music started, her heart was racing and after a few minutes she froze! She had to switch the class to some more basic kickboxing moves. She told myself she would give it three classes and if it wasn’t better after that she would quit. By the third class they were all hooting and hollering with glow sticks and strobe lights! Not only had she lost 60 lbs using these types of at home programs, she discovered there was an income opportunity attached to it. She was recently divorced, struggling to put food on the table, keep the utilities on, receiving foreclosure and repossession notices. She decided to take a chance and started her own online marketing company distributing health and wellness programs. Originally she thought she would just make $100 a month. A secretary in a corn refinery plant, never selling anything and lacked the confidence to believe anyone would join her on this new mission. Looking back, all of these small steps have led her to where she is today. Mentoring women in the US, Canada and the UK to duplicate her success, according to their goals, dreams and desires. Taking that leap of faith has not only given her confidence physically and emotionally, it has also led her to many opportunities. Such as moving she and daughter to Georgia, being featured on Fitness Infomercials, VH1, TLC, Modern Luxury and was crowned Mrs. Universe North America 2019. Lisa believes in living life FEARLESSLY!! She teaches the women she mentors that if there is a calling on their heart, something they can't stop thinking about they should go do it. That's God speaking. Not to push it off any longer. Commit to going after that Dream.

Deida K. Massey

Deida K. Massey creates masterpieces through her work as a highly sought-out celebrity makeup artist. The beauty of her skill is, not only in making people look polished externally, but using her gift to help mold, encourage, and color their lives from the inside out. Deida’s gift is shared in countless ways because she sees no limits. Hailing from the southside of Chicago, Massey is no stranger to the things that cause beauty scars in a person’s life – beginning with her own. When she experienced the tragic death of her father at only five years old, her life could have spiraled out of control. Yet, she persevered through the tumultuous childhood and teenage years and went on to receive her B.S. degree from Alabama State University, and her Master’s of Jurisprudence in Child and Family Law from Loyola School of Law. As a paralegal, Deida advocated for abused and neglected children in Chicago. Moonlighting as a makeup artist, the desire to pursue her passion full time won out. Fearlessly, Deida made an about face, packed her bags, and headed for the bright lights of Los Angeles which proved to be a worthwhile leap of faith. Deida has blessed the faces of many of entertainment’s elite, including KeKe Palmer, Tichina Arnold, Mary Mary, the late Dr. Maya Angelou, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland (formerly of Destiny’s Child), Common, Ludacris, Terri McMillian, Shaunie O’Neal, Sherri Shepherd, Juanita Vanoy Jordan, Michael Jordan and more. A career highlight was being chosen as part of an elite, and small group of makeup artists for Oprah’s Legends Ball in 2005. Deida has also worked on films like, Transformers 4, Divergent, and Chi-Raq, as well as popular TV Shows like “Chicago Fire,” “Empire,” “Chicago PD,” “The Chi,” the “Holy and Hungry” on the Food Network, “Shameless,” and many commercials, editorials, and music videos. Deida experienced great success in her chosen field, but still yearned to make a difference in the lives of young girls. As a result of pursuing her passion, her purpose evolved. Not only did Deida use her hands to transform faces, Deida began to use her heart to inspire girls to see their true beauty. Deida founded Reel Beauty Inc., in 2002, a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide self-esteem workshops to assist young women in becoming productive citizens as they rediscover their beauty inside and out. With a philosophy that says, “beauty is only skin-deep”, and a goal to help restore and revitalize their mind, body, and spirit, Reel Beauty offers a 14-week curriculum for young women from Chicago Public Schools. The goal is to help the young women to overcome problems of social and emotional issues that relate to low self-esteem, lack of self-worth, and conflict resolution. For Deida, it is important to show her mentees how beautiful they are, help them discover their gifts that unlocks their purpose, which leads to their destiny, and to show them how important they are to society. Reel Beauty equips girls with tools to succeed in life. Deida’s passion for service has set her on a path to see young women become all they can be. Through Reel Beauty, she provides them with a blueprint, a set of activities and arranges mentors that come alongside them. This further proves that she understands the power of vision. This dream chaser urges all to dream beyond what they can see. Positive, loving energy and creating beautiful memories are what excites her. Deida is motivated by seeing her goals come to life and creating a road map to success. Deida knows that the general form or structure of a face needs contouring, refining and expanding. Due to the success of Reel Beauty in Chicago, Deida excitedly included a S.T.E.A.M. component to further enhance the total beauty of the young women. Reel Beauty is evolving from the 14-week self-esteem curriculum, to teaching girls the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. The goal is to help girls transition into high level entry jobs in these areas that will help them become competitors and successful in the world we live in today. So, not only does Reel Beauty make the inner-city girls feel beautiful and more self-assured, it also equips them with tools to succeed in life. After mentoring thousands of girls in the U.S., the program expanded to Africa. Reel Beauty launched their international program in Mwanza, Tanzania, in June 2011. The next big thing is building Reel Beauty on an international level through their Social S.T.E.A.M. Curriculum. While Deida experiences personal great success, she also desires to make a difference in the lives of young girls. With an ambitious aim to help them see beyond the exterior, and help them realize that all that glitters is not gold, Deida does the necessary work of helping transform minds, showing the girls a different perspective of how the entertainment world views them. She realized how detrimental the messages in today’s music, culture and media are, and has vowed to do something to wipe off all the negativity. She wants girls everywhere to know that the music, and images around them should not define, defeat, or deflate them. Another one of Deida’s passions is traveling the world, speaking and transforming the lives of girls and women. Deida is motivated through traveling to some of the world’s most beautiful places to witness how other cultures live, and operate in what they believe. Deida gets excited about opportunities that allow her to be open-minded about people and reminds her that God is much bigger than being placed in a box. Deida’s transparency about her own formative years and stories of what she experienced help her to resonate with her audience. As an overcomer who now helps others do the same, Deida Massey is a name that should come to mind when thinking of who to invite to speak to your audience of ladies of all ages. With a message of finding real beauty and being beautiful on the inside and out, Deida encourages those struggling in those areas to realize their greatness and the essence of true beauty. Deida is also a published author. In 2016, she penned her first beauty memoir, “Face Values-The Foundation of Beauty.” The lessons in the book detail Deida’s personal journey of overcoming challenges through persistence, faith, and hard work can be shared at colleges, schools, businesses, and ministries. Deida is also being recognized for her handiwork by receiving multiple prominent awards. In March 2015, Deida received The Woman of Excellence Award from Omega Psi Phi Chi Lambda Lambda chapter for her service with Reel Beauty. In September 2016, she received the 40 Under 40 Game Changer Award from Ariel Investments and WVON, a local radio station in Chicago. Deida’s gift is truly making room for her. The impact of her Reel Beauty program continues to grow, and she is now grooming her mentees for leadership roles in the organization. Deida is building, implementing, and executing programs globally for girls. Her hope is that they will thrive in the areas where she mentors and supports them, especially in the areas of entrepreneurship and leadership. Reel Beauty is now also partnering with another local organization, Demoiselle 2 Femme, to create a Social S.T.E.A.M. curriculum for grades 5 - 7 for a school for girls named after S.T.E.A.M. icon, Katherine G. Johnson - opening September 2018. Reel Beauty has also partnered with the same organization on a federal grant from the Department of Health to bring awareness to the community about the effects of STI and HPV among teen girls. If there is a young girl whose life can be beautified internally, or externally, Deida K. Massey has the blessed hands and heart to do it. This celebrity makeup artist, mentor, philanthropist, CEO/Founder and author has her hands all in and doing the work.
